Did you know?

Canned food was invented when the French Government offered a hefty cash award of 12,000 francs(about USD 100,000 +/- in today’s dollars adjusted for inflation in 2013) to any inventor who could devise a cheap and effective way to preserve large amounts of food for the French Army’s autumn and winter campaigns during the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century. Nicolas Appert, a French confectioner and brewer, became the forefather of the modern canned food industry.
